It’s Quiet Time…

Psalm 141:3 (ESV) 3 Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!

Bet you’ve never done this:  hanging around just talking with people when all of a sudden, it’s like an out-of-body experience.  You watch words fly out of your mouth.  Your brain is telling you to HUSH, BE QUIET, DON’T SAY THAT but your mouth just doesn’t listen.  It keeps going and going like the EverReady Bunny.  Those are my worse nightmares, but happen while I am awake I’m afraid to admit.

Was reading yesterday and saw this verse and wondered ‘where it had been all my life’.  I believe it is a prayer we should all say every hour of every day.  God’s word says there is life and death in the tongue that is why we have to be very careful not only what we say but how we say it.  If you wouldn’t say it if Jesus were physically beside you – DON’T say it because He really is there.  There’s an old saying – If you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say anything.  It’s true.  (I can bet that the world would be a lot quieter place if we followed it.)  Life and death, sometimes we do hold the key with our words.

My prayer is that the Lord would help me to watch what I say and how I say it…that I use my words and actions to encourage those around me…that I can be a testimony to the power of words.  How about you?

I pray everyone has a GREAT and BLESSED day!

Getting in Shape!

Exodus 15:2 (NIV) 2 The Lord is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation.  He is my God, and I will praise Him, my father’s God, and I will exalt Him.

This week I started training for my first 5K run on October 17th.  That’s 3.1 miles…3.1 miles!  (Anyone that knows me and is reading this is going, ‘what is she…nuts!’  ‘She’s not in shape, she’s not strong enough.’ ‘She’ll pass out from lack of oxygen within the first 15 minutes’.)  Well right now, at this moment they’re correct – I’m not in shape.  But I found this program and if I follow the instructions and do what it tells me to do, I will at the end of almost 3 months be able to run 3.1 miles in about 60 minutes.  (My goal is to do it in about 45 minutes.)

In our spiritual life, who is our strength? In one word…Jesus!  How do we gain in His strength, how do we get into the shape He desires us to be in?  By following His commands, by living our lives the way He desires us to.  He has the program all written out for us.  We have the examples of many men and women in the Bible of what to do and what not to do.  It isn’t hard to figure out all…all we have to do is read His instructions – the Bible.  And if we obey His word, we will become stronger and stronger in Christ until we get to our ultimate goal.  Christ in us until there is nothing left of ourselves.  Then all we will see in the mirror is a reflection of Him!

My prayer is that each day I become stronger in the Lord…that I never forget exactly where my strength comes from…that my life is a testimony of the joy and peace found in the strength of the Lord.  How about you?

I pray everyone has a GREAT and BLESSED day.

Want? Then Worship!

Psalm 34:9 (AMP) 9 O fear the Lord, you His saints [revere and worship Him]!  For there is no want to those who truly revere and worship Him with godly fear.

Want…everybody wants something.  Material things, stronger relationships, spiritual growth…I could sit here all day and the list would never end as to what we want and desire in and for our lives.  But I believe this verse is describing a different kind of want.  Even when we are in dire circumstances…even if we feel our world is crashing down around us…if we truly revere and worship our Lord, the peace He gives us will sweep any negative emotions away.  We will be left knowing that He is in control of the situation and that He will see us through.

Yet for us to revere and worship Him, we have to know Him.  That means prayer, fasting, reading God’s word, going to church, loving our neighbor…it means becoming more and more like Jesus each and every day.  As we do that – the things we want will become what He has desired for us.  Our love will become His…our life will become His.

My prayer is that I become more and more like Jesus every day…that no matter what is going on around me I have His awesome peace in my heart…that people around me know where my peace and joy come from, my Lord.  How about you?

I pray everyone has a GREAT and BLESSED day.
