5 Minute Friday – REST

Ahhh…rest, sweet rest!  Only got five minutes to describe it!

I think about the ‘things’ I believe I need a ~rest~ from.  Work, chores at home, noise, chatter, life.  But as I began to think about them I realized just how selfish I could become.

There are people in this world who get no rest.  Mothers walking miles and miles to find food for their children to keep them from starvation.  Fathers trying to find sufficient employment to keep their families from being homeless.  Refugees who have no idea how or when they might ever be able to go back home.

My ‘rest’ seems puny at best.

Yet I realize that no matter who we are, where we come from, what we are doing – the ultimate rest lies in a relationship with Jesus Christ.  He is the source of all we need.  He is the ‘pillow’ we can lay our heads on when things just aren’t going right.  He is our shield, our strength, our high tower ~ our REST!

Missing You…

There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t miss you!  Certain triggers make me think of and miss you even more.

Passing a thrift store.  Walking on the track or treadmill on a Saturday morning.  Drinking a strawberry shake.

I understand you had to leave.  I understand that it was time.  I understand that you are no longer in pain.

But I still miss you so.

You told me I was ‘too perky’.  You listened to my rants.  You listened to my heart.  You were my friend and my sister.

Lord, how I miss you.

One day I will see you again.  I will hug you.  I will praise our Lord with you.  Then I will no longer miss you.

5MC ~~ Home

cottageHome…it’s a word that can mean different things to different people.

Then you have the old clichés: “Home is where the heart is.” “There’s no place like home.” “I left my heart in San Francisco.”  Oops…that’s not one of them is it. ☺

Home to me is a place where I am comfortable.  It is a place where laughter is found and memories are made.  Where I can kick off my shoes and just be myself.  It is my center.

Home is also a place in my heart where the people whom I love that are no longer in this physical world are found.  My sister, my grandmothers, my grandfather just to name a few, are found in my memories of home.

In my fantasy this is what my living room looks like.  It’s where I would read and write to my heart’s content.
