Psalm 141:3 (ESV) 3 Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!
Bet you’ve never done this: hanging around just talking with people when all of a sudden, it’s like an out-of-body experience. You watch words fly out of your mouth. Your brain is telling you to HUSH, BE QUIET, DON’T SAY THAT but your mouth just doesn’t listen. It keeps going and going like the EverReady Bunny. Those are my worse nightmares, but happen while I am awake I’m afraid to admit.
Was reading yesterday and saw this verse and wondered ‘where it had been all my life’. I believe it is a prayer we should all say every hour of every day. God’s word says there is life and death in the tongue that is why we have to be very careful not only what we say but how we say it. If you wouldn’t say it if Jesus were physically beside you – DON’T say it because He really is there. There’s an old saying – If you don’t have anything good to say, don’t say anything. It’s true. (I can bet that the world would be a lot quieter place if we followed it.) Life and death, sometimes we do hold the key with our words.
My prayer is that the Lord would help me to watch what I say and how I say it…that I use my words and actions to encourage those around me…that I can be a testimony to the power of words. How about you?
