Psalm 80:19 (ESV) 19 Restore us, O Lord God of hosts! Let Your face shine, that we may be saved!
Have you ever seen a photo of an old car, old house, or piece of furniture that with age has faded or rusted? It looks really bad – not like it did when it was brand new. Then someone comes along and refinishes it…restores it…makes it look just like it did long ago. That’s what God does for our spirit man/woman when we allow Him to be the Savior of our souls.
I can honestly say that when I was not serving the Lord, my heart was not very pretty. I did and said a lot of things that were dark and ugly. My outlook on life was selfish, immoral, and ugly. BUT when I asked God to restore me, to save me I became a brand new Cindy. He took all the darkness, the ugliness and got rid of it and restored me so that my spirit was shiny and new. Does that mean that I am perfect…NO. But it does mean that when the old Cindy tries to creep in – the shiny, sparkly new one says ‘back up’ God has changed me and there’s no place for you. What He has done and still does for me – He will do for you!
My prayer is that I allow God to shine His light on my heart each and every day to make sure that nothing ugly creeps in…that I can be an example to those around me of the wonderful light God has for His children…that people around me know I am a work in progress and want to be like my Jesus. How about you?
