Looks Good to Me…
Genesis 13:10 (NIV) 10 Lot looked up and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan was well watered, like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, toward Zoar. (This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) (my emphasis)
Have you heard the expression ‘the grass isn’t always greener on the other side of the hill’? This definitely applied to Lot. When Abraham gave him the choice of where to live Lot looked around at all the areas. And where did he choose to go…well, the best according to what he could see. But we all know that in the end – the place he chose was not the best, it was the worst. And he and his family got into a lot of trouble where they lived – Sodom.
Do you realize that sometimes we are like Lot? We see something and just because it looks like the best, we choose it. Sometimes we ask God what would be the best for us yet when He tells us something we don’t want to hear, we ignore Him or justify choosing the wrong thing. I can honestly say that I am guilty of this. Going along my merry way…looking at ‘the grass’ on the other side saying to myself – that’s where I should be! I belong there…I deserve that. Then, while ignoring the warning bells going off, I plow right on through to get what I want. After a time I realize that I have chosen the wrong thing for me and really messed things up. I have to go ‘hat in hand’ and ask Jesus to forgive my pride, arrogance, wilfulness and a host of other not so pleasant attitudes. The awesome thing about God is that once we ask for forgiveness with a humble and contrite heart, He does just that. It doesn’t mean He will immediately remove us from the place we are in but He will help us to find our way back to where we’re supposed to be.
My prayer is that I learn not to look at ‘grass’ on the other side and desire it more than my desire for the Lord…that I always with prayer and petition ask God where He wants me and what His will is for my life…that I say yes to the direction that God wants me to travel and not where I want to be. How about you?
I pray everyone has a GREAT and BLESSED day.
